November Newsletter

President's message

Hi all,
Welcome fall. I love the colors this time of year and the cooler temperatures.  Thanks to all who came out last month for the UFO.   And a big thanks to those who supplied lunch. It was a nice day visiting and trying to get something completed. At least for me it was an attempt, not a success. I did get further along though.  Remember to respond to the email ballot if you have not already done so.
I'm looking forward to the Candy Cane and Holly project Betty Roberts is teaching.  If you would like to paint the piece please let me know ASAP and I'll get the prep instructions to you. The pattern fits on an 8.5X11 inch paper so the surface you bring will need to be close to that.  Please join us with your own project if you are not going to paint the candy canes and holly.

Just a reminder: PAYMENT of $25 for the Christmas lunch at the Lion House is due by November 21.  Places will NOT be reserved without payment.  Christmas luncheon and ornament exchange at the Lion House will be on December 5.   Due to pricing changes there will be no favors this year. We will still have the ornament exchange.  It is always a lot of fun. I hope everyone can join us.  This will be our last year at the Lion House. (another reminder: Payment due by November 21)  Reservations for you will not be made without payment!

My messages are getting shorter as my time as president gets closer to the end. Thank you for all the support through the year. You are a great group of women.

Hope to see you all on November 21.
Betty

 September Newsletter

 Message from the President

Hi all,

Thanks you everyone who donated and/or helped with the yard sale. I think there are still donations to be made. Thanks especially to Lisa and Doyle Peck for the use of their home and all the donations of items. The yard sale was more successful than I thought it would be. I think we raised close to $700. Half will go the YWCA for the battered women's shelter and half to the guild.
It was a fun day. The opening social followed the yard sale. It was very nice to see everyone and it was a fun time.

I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer. I can't believe summer is over and school has started.  I did get back to NJ to see my sister and get to the ocean. The Jersey shore is one of my happy places and helped it feel like actually summer happened. The good side of summer being over is the painting meetings start again and we all get back together.
I look forward to seeing you all at the September meeting.

Betty Van Pelt
President

June Retreat

June Retreat was so much fun.  We want to thank Jolynn for the use of her Cabin.  The view was spectacular, and the weather couldn't have been better.  Lisa planned a wonderful variety of projects, and we all left with them almost completed.  Thanks Lisa for a great painting retreat!  AND as always, the food was spectacular thanks to Betty, Pat and Jolynn.  I think we all came away a few extra pounds heavier, but much lighter in spirit and ready for the summer.  Bunnies, rabbits and spring time projects were everywhere.

Our theme for Retreat next year will be "Travel".  Be thinking about the classes you would like to take and would like to teach, and share your ideas with Betty V.
See you all at the Luncheon.

April - Newsletter

Presidents Message
Hi all,
Happy early spring everyone! Of course, the temperature is supposed to drop drastically (writing this Tues Mar 31). I hope everyone's plants survive and the weather change brings rain to the valley.
I am excited for the upcoming projects and seminar.
April 25 - Rogaland flower plate (don't have the pattern with me so spelling may not be correct)  with Nola - It is a very pretty JoSonja pattern.
May 16 - zentangle apron with Brenda - very cute, bright fun project - aprons are available at Hobby Lobby - pattern inspired by a Janice Miller design.
June 25-27 - retreat at JoLynn's cabin - Spring Summer themed. Adorable cement bunnies and sign-up sheet for those at the studio. Hopefully all else on display for the April meeting. Lisa has some fun ideas planned. Hope you can all make it.
August 15 - Opening Social which will include yard sale and bake sale at Kay's. Proceeds will be split with a local charity and the chapter. If you have items you would like to donate to the cause they will be greatly appreciated. They do NOT have to be crafting items. We are currently thinking yard/bake sale in the morning and the luncheon after. More details will follow as we refine the plan.
October 8 - 10 - Sherry Nelson Seminar.   I am very excited to have Sherry Nelson coming to us. Oil painting. $110 a day to paint beautiful birds. The projects progress in difficulty each day. I was told if you start with project you will be able to paint them all even if you have not painted in oils before. We will require a $100 deposit by.  If the sign-ups will not cover costs on the seminar will be canceled. Projects are on the blog.
If you have questions or concerns feel free to call me or e-mail.
I have to get back to work.
Happy painting!
Hope you can all make the April meeting.
Thanks,
Betty

Shara Reiner
Thanks so all who came out to paint with Shara. We had a wonderful time! It was three days of relaxed, fun painting and creativity.  Can I just say, we really out do ourselves when it comes to food that is provided for the seminars we host. Great job ladies and a huge shout out to those who brought all of the good eats.
It was such a delight to meet and visit with Shara. She is spunky and full of life and reflects all things bright and beautiful. To look at her art work is to know Shara.
Check out the bracelet -black and white
zentangle on shrinky-dink film
One interesting thing about her was to see and hear the story behind the whimsical bracelets she wore each day.
Jan's pre-class preparation
We had a new over achiever/turbo painter during this seminar and it wasn't Judy. Jan came to class with ALL of the base painting done. Whaaaaat? No kidding, her piece was half way finished before the rest of us even got started. Great job Jan. Yes, she went home with a completed piece.
Jan, waiting on the rest of us.

You gotta love the sisters sharing the love of painting
Loretta and Jolene

Betty and Pat
Everyone listened to Shara and remained focused on the task at hand. All three days of painting were well spent.

Make sure you mark your calendar for April 25!
