December 2018 Newsletter

Hello all you painting ladies,

Some of you have probably already heard about Lisa's health struggle these past few weeks.  I saw Lisa at the doctor's office on November 13th and she said she was really sick.  Then I heard she was in the Lone Peak hospital with Influenza and Pneumonia.  She spent many days in the ICU on a respirator, and slept for a long time.  She is now in a rehab facility and is hoping to come home this weekend.  We wish her the best and a speedy recovery.  Loves and hugs from all of us!

The Christmas party is coming up on Decmeber 15th.  See the information below.

Glenna Nielsen, our Chapter President for next year, has put together all the projects for the whole year and she has scheduled Kirsten Birkeland to teach at the seminar in April.    (See below for more information).

Wishing you all a calm, happy, family-friendly holiday!  Keep warm, smile a lot, and buy yourself a little something special!  :)

~ Maridene

The Christmas Party is coming up on Saturday, December 15, at 12 noon at Lisa Peck's house, 939 East Old English Road, Draper, UT.  For the gift exchange, please bring a new ornament valued between $10 to $15.  Use your imagination and pick something everyone will want.  We will be drawing for the baskets at the Christmas Party.  If you haven't payed yet, please send your $25.00 to Pat McKean.

The drawing for the beautiful Service Baskets will held at the party.  If you still want to purchase tickets for the Service Project raffles, contact Betty, or buy some more tickets at the party.

January 19, 2019 Class

Judy Graham will be teaching a Palekh design on a small box.  The box will be made by Jan Pecharich.  The cost of the box will be $20.00 and the pattern will be $10.00.

If you want to order the box for this project, please call or email Pat McKean ASAP!

Judy says she used tiny liners.  When she took the class they used Raphael number 8829 in a 2 and 0.  Josonja has a new brush out number 4015 in a 10/0 that is really great.  One of the best things is to bring magnifying glasses so you can see well.

February 16, 2019 Class

Glenna Nielsen will teach a Leprechaun design on a plate.  The pattern fits a 13" plate with an 8 1/2 inch center an d a 2 1/2 rim.  The pattern can be reduced or enlarged to fit another surface.  This will be a "bring your own surface" project.  The cost of the pattern is $10.00.

March 16, 2019 Class

Kay Salisbury will teach a beautiful floral design on a round table from IKEA.  It is the same table we have painted on before.  Members can pick up their own table or Glenna offered to pick up tables for those who need one.  The tables cost around $20.00.  Patterns for the project are $10.00.

October 2018 Newsletter

President's Letter

Hi Gals,

Can you believe that it is October already?

We have some fun things happening to finish off the year, so mark your calendars.

Nola is teaching the turkey this month. She will be teaching the owl at the same time for those who want that. We will be multi-tasking painters. If you missed out on the wood order, the turkey is painted on the small gas pump sign from cupboard distributing.

Jan Pecharich is teaching the Santa from Helan Barrick in November. She is teaching this on a big, wooden bell, and if you want a bell I need to know ASAP. I have 5 people that have ordered new bells, so if you are one of those you can relax. There are also a bunch of us that have bells already, so if you are one of those, you can still relax. If you do not fall into either category and you would like a bell, I need to know soon!

Our Christmas party sign-up is in full swing, and you are going to want to get your name on the list. We are having it catered  and we will be at Lisa Peck's home. It will be on December 15th this year, which is our normal paint weekend, but a change for the Christmas party. Mark your calendars! We will start at noon and we are having the ornament exchange, so start looking, painting, beading, papering, sewing THE ornament that everyone wants now. It is always a challenge to do something that everyone would love.

Our service project baskets are also out now, and you can get your tickets for those for one dollar each, and each basket has tons of goodies in it. If you know people that are interested and would like to participate but are not members of chapter, they are welcome. Remember that all monies for this special raffle will be donated to Huntsman Cancer in the guild's name.

Elections are coming up, and we would love to have you on the board. Contact Glenna to let her know you are willing to help out.

I am going to be past president soon and I am still looking for a theme for retreat next year. I know that I want hedgehogs to be a part of that, but not all hedgehogs. If you can think of a fun theme, please let me know.

Thank you for all you do to help out. We have an amazing chapter and we have so much fun when we get together.

Lisa Peck
President

September 2018 Newsletter

Hi Ladies,

August opening social was so much fun! Thank you so much for your help with the baskets for our service project. I think I am seeing stars in my dreams. Ha Ha. I will have those at chapter meetings throughout the rest of the year, so have your donations for tickets ready. The small cabinet that Michele Walton painted for us is truly beautiful. Remember that all monies made on these baskets will go to Huntsman Cancer Center.

The last half of our year is really going to be fun! Glenna is teaching the Boo Box in September, and that will be on your own wood piece, so I guess it could be a Boo plate, if you wanted. Nola is teaching the Owl and the Turkey in October. The Owl is a quick paint project, so Nola will teach both at the same time. I also know that some of you have already painted the owl. I have already ordered wood for those who have signed up for it. If you missed signing up, I may have an extra piece of wood for the first to call it. Jan Pecharich is teaching the Helan Barrick Santa Bell in November, and we have had sign-ups for the bells. Jan is making some new bells for those who wish, but we need to know asap, so we can get those ordered.

Our Christmas party is on December 15th at my house. The cost is $25.00, and we are having it catered. We are also doing the ornament exchange, again. Start looking for that ornament that will thrill everyone now! We always laugh and have such a fun time at the Christmas party. I hope everyone can make it this year.

I just got off the phone with SDP and I apologize to all of you for the confusion with the membership cards. If you have not received your card yet, e-mail Lydia at SDP and she will send you an e-mail copy of it. Lydia said that they had quite a problem getting the cards out this year, and many did not receive them. The cost was getting to be too much to resend them, so they are just doing e-mail copies now. I am sorry for the confusion, Ladies. I may need a do-over on that one.
Elections are coming up, and any of you that are willing to serve, your help would be much appreciated. We have a great time as a board and would love to have you join us. Let me know if you are willing to help out.

I am also looking for suggestions for next years retreat. I know I want to have hedgehogs be a part of it, so if your imaginations come up with a fun theme, let me know. "Alice in Wonderland" was suggested and also a "Back to Nature" theme. Let me know if you think of something fun.
Thank you so much for all of the help that you give and I am looking forward to more painting fun with you.

Lisa Peck

Please note:  We will be adding photos of the projects as soon as we get them!

July 2018 Newsletter

Hi Ladies,

I hope you have had a fun July with the holidays.  We always take the month of July off.

Wasn't retreat so much fun? Maridene and her board did an amazing job and we had so much fun! I also just realized that I forgot the forget-me-not cookies I was supposed to bring. Ha Ha. Everything about retreat was so awesome from the food to the projects and especially the company. Thank You Maridene and crew. I have the stuff that I painted out to look at and I smile every time I see what I was able to complete.

Our August Opening Social will be held on Saturday, August 18th, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at my house, 939 East Old English Road (about 13500 South 939 East, Draper, UT).  We have so many fun things planned for the rest of the year and all of the sign-up sheets will be out at the August social, so please plan to attend and see what the rest of the year holds.  If you haven't already done so, please RSVP to me!

Our service project baskets will also be out in August, so if you have anything that you would like to contribute to our baskets, please get it to me as soon as possible. I am at Glenna's fairly regularly, and you can leave it there with a note, or bring it out to me, or I can meet you. Let me know. I could really use some help on these baskets. I am in need of jewelry and patterns and paints and brushes and anything else you think we could put in any of these five baskets that painters like us would love.

I am looking forward to the rest of the year. It has been a joy being your president this year.

Lisa Peck
