Utah Guild of Heritage Artists October 2022 Newsletter

President’s Message from Marilyn Healy:

I am loving the cooler temperatures. If you have not driven up to see the fall colors, you should. They are so pretty this year. I am looking forward to all the fall fun.

Reminder:  We are meeting on the 4th Saturday this month – October 22. This date is when the teacher could meet.

October 22 is the Chinese brush painting virtual seminar.
We are painting hummingbirds and flowers.  The “actual” piece is not finished. Below are examples of hummingbirds and painted ones. The cost of the class is $30.

The brushes are unique, I’m not sure if “normal” watercolor brushes will work.

The PRE-brushes are similar to student brushes and work if you don’t want to invest a lot until you try them.

For this project, you will need a small flow brush and a small happy dot brush. Betty will have kits available with paper, ink, and paint for $3.00.

Hummingbird

Most birds are considered a symbol of good luck and messengers of positive news in China. Hummingbirds are not found nor are indigenous species in Asia. Hummingbirds do appear in ancient Mayan, Aztec, Incas and Celtic civilizations. As a spirit animal, the hummingbird represents enjoyment, lightness and reminds us to find the joy and love in our lives and to keep away from negativity.

November 19:

Nola will be teaching Lynne Andrews two Santas. See the photo below. The pattern is $10. The wood is $2.50 each. You may want to base in at least 2 or 3. They are quick to work up. We will have examples at the October meeting.
