 Utah Guild of Heritage Artists

November 2021 Newsletter

Hi all,

I hope you are enjoying the cooler nights and you got out to see the beautiful leaves.

The Sandy McTier seminar was a lot of fun.  Two days of painting and laughs.  Thanks to all who supported this event. Sandy McTier Designs has a membership group if you are interested.  This month is two short projects and one long one.  Everything is recorded and available for approximately a year.  Very supportive members. Mostly journal pages but you can do them on any surface.  Variety of projects.  A monthly challenge.  There is no pressure.  I have a list of those I want to catch up on.

Thank you to all who responded to our poll on the size of the board (28 responses - most of the group, much appreciated).  Over 96% voted for the smaller board.  We will be holding elections in December since we have been getting a better turnout for the social gatherings.  Marilyn will be president since she was president-elect and to keep some consistency.  Gail will be treasurer since she was treasurer-elect (Pat will be helping with the transition.)  There is one spot open, we would like someone not currently on the board to volunteer.  If you are interested please contact Marilyn. 801-554-7665.

Dues are due.  $25 for the year.

Nov 20th -9 am -  $10- Jacque is teaching water droplets on a cabbage leaf. We will start with a brief meeting then painting. Journal page 7 X 10 or own surface.  Paint Hauser medium green or other medium green. The pattern will be applied after some additional steps that day.

Dec 4 - Noon - $25 - Christmas Party at noon at Marie Callendar's,
1109 E 3900 S, Millcreek, UT 84117
Please contact Pat McKean if you will be attending.
Lunch, voting, project ideas for next year, and a gift exchange.
Please bring a gift of approximately $15 value.
Please bring project ideas for next year. Indicate whether you are willing to teach or if we need to find someone.
We will have three main courses to choose from at the restaurant and drink and pie.
I need to confirm the menu with the restaurant.

January 15 - 9 am - $10- Snow Days pattern by Shara Reiner - Taught by Betty V.
The pattern is for 11 X 15 inches basket from Painter's Paradise #33344 (currently out of stock)

Hope to see you all soon.
Take care.

Happy Painting,
Betty

After the group discussion at the Opening Social we will be staying with SDP for 2022.  We committed to this for one year and we will reevaluate.  We are staying with SDP mainly for the insurance. There will be more discussion about what will happen going forward.  Please be thinking about the future of the group and your role in the group. That said, SDP is making changes.  There is an on-line chapter.  They are offering ZOOM classes and selling e-patterns.  There are some upcoming events listed at the end of this letter.

There will be a poll coming out on the set up of the board for next year.
Marilyn will be president or head of the committee depending on how the vote goes.

Options in the poll will be (respond to poll when it comes out):

1. Keep board as is. (If you select this, We need new board members.  Please let Marilyn know what position you are willing to take on.)
2. Change the board to a committee of three (for this year Marilyn will head the board and Gail as treasurer and one other.)

The other polls brought up at the opening social will be sent out at a later date, we'd like to get the board or committee decided first.  If you weren't there and are curious, not having retreat, seminar, opening socials or have a committee to plan each, There may be additional polls as well.

September 4 - Chickadee in watercolor pencils - 9 AM meeting followed by the class.

Utah Guild of Heritage Artists

Budget Statement for 2020

Since retreat costs and dues were mostly paid in 2019 and class costs for ZOOM were priced at the pattern cost only there were more outgoing funds than incoming funds.

2021 is likely to be similar since dues were rolled over for 2020 membership into 2021 and ZOOM class pricing for classes so far still mostly pattern/supply cost only.

April 2021 Newsletter

Utah Guild of Heritage Artists

April 2021 Newsletter

Hi all,

Happy Spring!  As I'm writing this temps are supposed to drop 30 degrees and snow is possible after a few days around 70.  Spring in Utah can be anything. I'm excited things are starting to bud and bloom. I hope it all survives the drop and potential snow.
I hope all are well. Everyone getting vaccinated or already done?

Please note this class has been moved to April 24!!!

April 24 and May 15 - Donna Richards will be teaching us to paint from a photo. We will all be painting the same piece but learning how to paint from our own photo as well.   I will send the ZOOM link from March. Donna talks about the prep and some additional information at the beginning of the recording.  It will be $30 total for two months.

If you send a photo you would like to paint to her she will use our photos as examples in her discussion to help in painting our own photos.  Donna's email is Paint1too@aol.com. Please put UGHA photo in the subject line.  Please contact Pat McKean if you are interested in joining us.  Prep is preparing canvas (see ZOOM for more info) and putting on basic pattern lines.

The link below is from the March Zoom class. At the beginning of the video, Donna talks about prepping your canvass for the truck class. It is good information, so listen to it to prep the piece.  You will need to purchase an 11" x 14" portrait or smooth canvas.

June retreat - We are still checking on some things. There may be something every week in June on either a Friday or Saturday.  The plan is three ZOOM classes. Glenna is teaching seagulls, Jacque a watercolor beach scene, and I'll be teaching the artist amphibian.  More details to come.

Hope to see you all on ZOOM!

Take care!

Happy painting!

Betty

We are so very sorry to hear that Kay's husband passed away. She has been in our prayers and we want her to know her painting friends are here for her and love her very much. The guild sent flowers to the funeral. Kay gave us a thank you card.  See below.
