January 2020 Newsletter

Utah Guild of Heritage Artists

January 2020 Newsletter

Happy New Year to all of you wonderful women!!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season.

I'm excited for the year to begin.  Please remember to pay your dues if you have not already done so.  Thank you to all who have paid.

Glenna will be teaching the children playing in the snow in January. It is adorable and Glenna is a wonderful teacher.  I hope you will all join us. Feel free to bring something else if you are not painting this. Boxes will be available Saturday 1/11/2020 for those that ordered boxes.

February is our seminar with the fabulous Karen Brouwer.  The seminar is February 27 - 29. (Happy Leap Year!) The only piece(s) that need prep is(are) the snowglobes.  Pieces are here and will be distributed when fees are paid in full.  Karen is here from Australia.  Two pieces have mother of pearl.  There are still pieces available, please contact Betty Van Pelt (801-699-1246) as soon as possible if you are going to join us.

March will be Marilyn Healy painting a beautiful poinsettia on a canvas with tissue paper on it.  If the project is made smaller, it would be a great project for a beginner. Think about inviting someone.  More info to come.

Thank you all for making this such a wonderful group.

                                                             See you on the 18th.

Karen Brouwer Seminar

February 27, 28 and 29

We are so lucky that Betty made arrangements to have Karen Brouwer from Australia will come to Salt Lake after the Las Vegas convention to teach our guild.  Please pay for your wood pieces and the seminar at the January meeting.   The price is $50.00 per day, or if you register for all three days it is $125.00.  If you are not a member of the Salt Lake Chapter, you will need to pay the membership fee of $25.00.

It will be a tight fit on Saturday and tables will be set up in the kitchen.  Please, painters, do not bring your big roller bags into the painting area and park at the church, not at Glenna's house.  The project pieces for Thursday and Friday are already based.  We will need to base in the snow globes.  It is recommended that painters bring an ott light or magnifying glasses with lights because the work on the snow globes is tiny.

Karen will be teaching three projects, as follows:

February 27 - Wrens

The cost is $28.00 with the test tubes and $25.00 without.  The piece includes
mother-of-pearl sheets that will be adhered to the wood.

February 28 - Globes

You can choose from either the Nativity scene or the Christmas scene.
Also, you can choose if you want an open back or a painted back.
See the photos for an example.
The cost for the globe is $25.00.

February 29 - Hummingbirds

The cost for this class is $25.00.  The piece includes
mother-of-pearl sheets that will be adhered to the wood.

March 21 - Poinsetta

Marilyn will be teaching us this beautiful Poinsetta.  This is a fun piece to paint. Invite a friend or a beginner painter.   More details to come on this project.
