Letter from our President

Hi Ladies!

Wasn't Saturday awesome? I thank Cheri Ringger for taking the time to come and teach us "The Little Engine That Could."  We had some FUN pieces that were painted on and I was sad that I had to leave early. It is FUN to see everyone's imaginations come out in the inventive pieces you are choosing to paint on. Also, thank you to Betty for the great food and amazing raffles that she does! The raffles are really turning out to be a FUN event all by themselves! 

We got a really great preview of Retreat on Saturday and it is so exciting. The theme is "Alaska - Land of the Midnight Sun". There are so many FUN projects to choose from, like whales and huskies and puffins and northern lights. If you have not had a chance to see the projects then I encourage you to come in April and May to at least check them out. You might have to sign up for one of everything!

Our Michele seminar is going to be a lot of FUN, also. We are going to be meeting at Glenna's painting house. The piece is really beautiful and I can't wait to paint it. Remember that breakfast and lunch are included in the seminar cost. Come by and see us even if you are not painting the project. It will be a great opportunity to see what's coming up.

Our service project will be unveiled in May and it is going to be FUN. We are doing five beautiful baskets and you will be able to contribute to the special raffle every month to the end of the year. The tickets will be $1.00 each and all money is donated to the Huntsman Cancer Institute. We will be drawing for these baskets at our December Christmas party and you do not need to be present to win.

I hope to see everyone in April, even if you just stop by to say Hi! Thank you to everyone who works so hard to keep things running smooth. I could not do this without all of you!

Service Project

Hi ladies,

We are putting together some beautiful baskets for our SERVICE PROJECT and I am looking for donations. If you have any handcrafted jewelry that you would like to donate, one of the baskets is a jewelry box full of handcrafted jewels! We are also looking for donated paints and paintbrushes and Karen Hubbard Patterns and Michele Walton patterns and Hazel Rimmasch patterns or pieces. I know this gives you a little idea of the kind of baskets we are doing, and it is really going to be FUN. There will be five beautiful baskets to choose from, so there is still a little bit of surprise for you!

Ladies, you are so generous in all you do! Thank you so much. Remember that all monies collected in this special raffle will be donated to Huntsman Cancer Institute.

May 19th Project - 9:00 am


In May we will be doing a beautiful Norwegian bowl by Gary Albrecht.  It is a piece from the Decorative Painter from 1993, and I am excited to see what we can all come up with.  Gary's bowl is black and red, but this can be easily translated to other colors if you wish.  We can put our heads together and figure it out.  This will be fun.

Retreat 2018

I am so excited to invite you to the UGHA Retreat on June 14, 15, & 16.  We will be having retreat at JoLynn's Cabin - we thank JoLynn for graciously letting us use her cabin.  You can also choose to stay at the Homestead or at Zermott Resort if you would like.

The theme this year is "Alaska - Land of the Midnight Sun."  We have so many fun projects and will have great giveaways at the retreat, so you won't want to miss signing up!

The cost to register is $75 per member and $100 per non-member.  The class fees for pattern and surface are additional.  Please register by April 21st so that we can get the surfaces ordered.  You can mail your registration form to Pat McKean, 6695 South 1655 East, Cottonwood Heights, UT  84121.  You can pick up a registration form at the April seminar or let me know and I will email you one.

Thursday, June 14th, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. - "Fox & Snowman" or "Fox & Birch Trees" -- a Laurie Speltz pattern taught by Kay Salisbury.  The cost for the round plate with the pattern is $21.00.  The cost for the watch surface & pattern is $12.00 .  You can order both if you would like!  Pattern is only is $8.00 if you bring your own surface.

Thursday at 7:00 p.m.  Make-it-Take-it Northern Lights Necklaces - taught by Jan C.  

The cost is $1.50 per necklace.

Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 p.m. - "Dancing With the Moon" Breaching Whale, a Margo Aguilar piece - taught by Betty Roberts and Gail Jensen.  The cost is $17.00 for canvas and pattern.  Pattern alone is $8.00.

Friday, June 15, 9:00 am to Noon - Phone holder "Keep Calm & Paint Everything"  Taught by Shonnie W.  We will be painting Forget-Me-Not Flowers (Alaska state flower) on the wood.  The cost for this project is $13.00.  Pattern only is $8.00.

Friday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. - Ice Cube Polar Bear (Jamie Mills-Price piece) - taught by Nola P.  You will need to purchase your own clear block cube at Hobby Lobby or Michaels using a 40% off coupon.  The size is 8" x 8", making them only around $7.00.  The pattern cost is $8.00.

Friday, 7:00 p.m. - Polar Bear and Northern Lights Cards - taught by Kay S. and Pat M. Cost is $3.00 for both cards, supplies included.  If you want to do more than one of each sign up for the number you want to do.

Friday, 8:00 p.m. - Watercolor Cards - puffin, etc. taught by Maridene A.  Cost is $2.00, supplies included, bring watercolor brushes.  We will be painting lots of different cards!

Saturday, June 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. - "Pile of Pups" taught by Glenna.  The cost is $23 for tray and pattern.  If you want to bring your own surface the cost is $8.00 for pattern only.

Letter from President Lisa Peck

Hi Gals,

Sorry I am a little slow with this. I am a new grandma today! We have an Avery Jane!

I would like to thank Glenna for teaching the Snowman and Elves project. I think that everyone finished, and it was so much fun to see the different pieces that everyone painted on. Some were big and re-arranged, and some were tiny. It was a lot of fun! Thanks Glenna.

Our project for March is the Oil can from JoSonja, to be taught by Cherie Ringger. I have seen some of the pieces that you are painting on, and this will really be a lot of fun. If you need patterns for basing, please contact Pat. If we come with our pieces based, we may finish this project, just like we finished last month's. We are getting a great start to our year.

I will have Michele's piece in March, so come have a look/see. If I am able to get a picture we will have to send it out separate. Sorry. We are going to be painting in April at my house. That way we won't have to cap the number of people who can come. If you have seen the tray, you will be as excited as I am, and that is without paint on it. Everything Michele does is beautiful. This is a great opportunity to get to paint with Michele and I hope you all are able to take advantage. She is so much fun to paint with!

I know a lot of our gals went to Vegas this past month and I am hoping you will all do a quick show and tell for us on the March paint day. Bring your favorite piece you painted and show us!

We are still looking for painted pieces or handcrafted items for the special raffle for our service project this year. Please let me know if you have anything you are willing to donate.

Thanks so much for the joy you ladies bring with you each month when you come to paint with us.

Reminder we will be painting at Lisa Peck's House in Draper. 

Michelle is doing a project on a Magnolia Home bowl and we will have her piece at the meeting in March.  This is a great chance to paint with Michelle.  She is so much fun to paint with, if you haven't had the opportunity.  She has the most amazing imagination and comes up with the funnest things to paint. I encourage you to put this on your calendar. The cost of the two-day seminar is $125.00.  Lisa has some trays available if you want to buy one.  They are $32.00.  Pay Pat if you want one.

Letter from President Lisa Peck

Hi Gals,

Welcome to another month!  We missed a lot of you last month because of snow.  We want to give Judy a big THANK YOU for being President last year, and, also, for teaching the Zhostovo box.  We had a pretty good turnout, in spite of the snow.  Hopefully this month will be better.  If you can't make it to paint, at least come by and see the sign-up sheets for the upcoming projects.  We have sign-up sheets through May for everyone to look at.  

This month Glenna will be teaching a Prudy Vannier Elf and Snowman that would look great on any piece of wood from your stash.  Patterns are $10.  Contact Pat McKean if you would like a pattern.

In March, Cherie Ringger will be teaching Jo Sonja's "The Little Engine That Could."  This is taught on a tin that is no longer available from Della and Company, but I did find something close.  It is item #FT-2318 Vintage Kettle w/ Handle.  It is 30% off right now.  I also found item #FT-2212 Antique Lunch pail w/ straight handles.  This is also on sale right now and I think the train would be beautiful on this.  I called Della and Company on Monday and they sold all of the railroad tins to gals in Utah County on Saturday.  Cherie's piece was that awesome!  Hopefully these stand-in pieces will work.  Otherwise, it is  a beautiful piece that can be adapted to any piece of wood or a wooden toy, if you like. The pattern is $10.

For our Service Project this year we are looking for some VERY NICE painted pieces to be donated for a special raffle.  We will have the pieces on display every month and you can purchase tickets at $1.00 each and continue adding to the drawing.  In December we will draw the names for the pieces and all of the monies made will be donated to Primary Children's Medical Center for Art Therapy.  We would love to have some beautiful pieces donated, if you can.  I know that many of our ladies would be so excited to have a painted piece by one of our painting friends.

I am so excited to be your president this year, and we have a very fun year lined up.   If you need anything, please feel free to call me.  I am looking forward to the wonderful teachers we have coming this year and the fun that we always have when we get together.

November 2017 Newsletter

Hi Ladies,

        Here we are into November and we had a wonderful seminar last week with Judy Diephouse.  I know I really enjoyed it, especially since I was able to finish both pieces.  I am looking forward to painting with Cheri Ringer doing the Santa and child on a tree plate.  Be sure and have all the basing done and Cheri feels that we could finish that piece as well.

        Remember to sign up for the Christmas luncheon which will be at the Lion House for the last year.  Cost is $25.00.  As soon as we feel everyone is signed up we are going to do a drawing for those attending.  Please bring a $10.00 gift for the person you get with an attached note about something positive about that person.  I think we all need positive feedback.  I know I am looking forward to it.

         We will be voting on our next year officers at the November meeting so please be there.  I would love to have everyone participate in running the Guild and helping to make it as great as can be.

                Also, this year I have signed up the Guild to participate in the Holiday Boutique at the Holladay City Building the Monday through Wednesday after Thanksgiving.  All proceeds will be given to the Huntsman Cancer Center to buy art supplies for the children battling cancer.  I am hoping everyone will participate in contributing at least one item for that sale.  Please bring the pieces you have to our November meeting with a price on it.  I will then get the tags ready for the boutique.  We really don’t need to man the booth.  I am close enough that I will check on it and do what needs to be done.  I think this will be a great time to let people in the area know about our art form.  We might even get interest in some learning from us.  Sure hope everyone will participate.

with comments about what you like about the person you are giving your gift to.

October 2017 Newsletter

Hi Ladies,

Here we are in October.  Where has the summer gone?  I am looking forward to the Judy Diephouse seminar this month.  Hope you are also.  Things look taken care of so please come and enjoy a couple  of fun painting days with us.  I do have a question for you.  Loretta received a deposit for the seminar from a Kim Rogers.  The check had no phone number on it and we need to call her to find out which day she is coming etc.  Hoping someone knows her.  Please give me a call if you do so I can get her a pattern etc.

November is coming right up with the painting of a Helen Barrick Santa and child being taught by Cheri Ringger.  The plates should be here to hand out at the seminar.

Christmas is right around the corner.  We will be going to the Lion House on the first Saturday in December.  Please sign up early .  For the gift exchange this year I am hoping to have a gift exchange where you will know who the gift goes to and you will be able to enclose a short note about something you like about that person.  I think it could really be fun.

The guild is going to have a table at a boutique here in Holladay with all the proceeds going to the Huntsman Cancer Center to buy art supplies for the children there.  This will also be a great time to showcase of art for to the community.  Hopefully everyone will have something to contribute.

Continue with all that fun painting and I will see you the end of the month.

September 2017 Newsletter

Hi Ladies,

I had a wonderful summer.  Just hope that you did also.  The opening social was great mainly because of the work of Kay and Pat.  So appreciative of Kay for letting us use her home again.   

The projects  for the remainder of the year were on display and sign-ups available.  If you weren’t there and want to paint, please contact Pat McKean who will take your money and get you the pattern.  Glenna is teaching a Halloween plate in September, the seminar with Judy Diephouse is in October and then Cheri is teaching a cute Helen Barrick Christmas Plate in November. 

We are looking forward to our annual Christmas Luncheon the first Saturday of December at the Lion House.  This has been a tradition and we are looking forward to it as well.

I know this is a short message but am hoping you will all come and make the end of the year memorable.  Please be thinking about serving on the board next year.  I know Lisa is looking for those to help and we need everyone’s input.
