July 2017 Newsletter

Dear Ladies,

I hope you have all had a great summer.  Retreat was great as usual and hopefully everyone has enjoyed the month off in July. Thank you to Shonnie for being over the retreat and thanks to her committee for making it such a great time for all.

August is really going to be busy for me as I will be in California painting with JoSonja for two weeks.  I leave on August 5 and return on August 19, so we need to move the opening social to August 26.  Kay Salisbury has graciously offered her backyard for the event.  We have had the social there before and what a great place.  We are planning on starting at noon and should be finished by around 4:00 so you will still have some  of Saturday open free for other things.

Kaye’s address is 2169 Creek Way in Sandy. We will have activities but I am looking forward to  seeing the projects for the rest of the year.  

In September Glenna will be teaching a Halloween plate, the seminar with Judy Diephouse will be  October 27 and 28 and then Cheri Ringger will be teaching a Helen Barrick Christmas plate in November.  We are then planning on our annual Christmas Luncheon in December.  Hope to see you there and have you join us painting these fun projects the rest of the year.

I have so appreciated the wonderful board I have been able to work with this year.  You all make our chapter work.  Thanks so much.

A two-day seminar taught by Judy Diephouse.  She will be teaching the two projects below.  The cost is $50.00 a day for members and $75.00 a day for nonmembers.  This is a bring-your-own-wood seminar.

May 2017 Newsletter

Hi Painting Ladies, 

We had a great time painting with Kristen last month and I even have my tree finished.  Hope everyone else did as well.

Please remember that we will be painting the Apple Basket with Lisa this Saturday (May 6th) which we missed in February.  I will be there at 9:00 a.m. and we will start painting as soon as possible.  Thanks Lisa for the adjustment.

Looking forward to painting with Tirzah this month which is a project I have been  wanting to paint for some time now.  Tirzah did call me the other day and feels that if we get some of the basing done ahead there is a chance we could finish our pieces.  Everyone knows the background is JoSonja’s Cobblestone.  After that just base in the scrolls with Stillwater, the leaves with Olive Green, all red areas with Red Earth, and all yellow areas with Raw Sienna.  Please check the colored picture for placement.  The flowers look white but are really yellow.

Shonnie and her committee have really been working on retreat which is coming up next month.  We should be able to pick up out projects at the meeting this month so we are ready for all the fun.  Hopefully everyone can make it to at least some of the festivities.

July is vacation time so have fun and we will be seeing you at the opening social August 26^th.  More information will be coming soon.

May 20 - 9:00 am

Rosemaling basket taught by Tirzah Probasco.  The wood and basket for this project is no longer available so you will need to bring your own wood (at least 12" x 12").  The pattern cost is $10.00.  

Retreat - June 15, 16, 17

Thanks for signing up for the retreat.  We are planning to have a great time.  You will be able to pick up your projects for preparation at the May meeting.  The retreat will be held June 15, 16, 17, 2017 at JoLynn Johnson's cabin.  You need to furnish your own paints for retreat.

Hi Ladies, 

From what I have heard everyone had a great time painting with Brenda last month while I was away painting with Misha.  I had a wonderful time as well.  Hope you are all looking forward to painting with Kristen this month.  I know that I am.  Please come to meeting for at least a little while since the projects and signups for retreat will be there.  Shonnie has a wonderful time planned for us.  

Hopefully all of you heard about the passing of Dorothy Orton.  She was such a fun person to be around.  We have missed her since her health worsened and or thoughts and prayers  are with her family.

  At board meeting we were looking toward opening social and the month is so busy that were are planning on having it August 26^th.  I know that is late in the month and different than out usual week so please put it on your calendar so you won’t miss out.

Kristen Birkeland will be teaching the beautiful rosemaled tree.  Kristen made up her own pattern.  It is a bit "Christmasie" for April, but it will give us a chance to get it done in time for Christmas!  Kristen did two sides to the tree.  The first one below is the one we will be painting.  When you come to the class she will provide the pattern for the other side of the tree.  The wood has already been handed out.  If you want to purchase a pattern only the cost is $10.00

When you come to class, you will be given this pattern for the back side.

Just mail your registration form to Pat McKean (address on form).  We have also included photos of each of the projects.  This will be a really fun retreat and we want you all to come!

March 2017 Newsletter

Dear Painters,

Since we didn’t have our meeting last month because Glenna’s Mother-in-law’s funeral was that day, I hope everyone is ready to get back to painting.  If anyone did not get the email I am sorry.  I tried my best to inform everyone.  Please be aware that we will be getting together the first Saturday in May (May 6) to paint the Apple Basket with Lisa.  Planning on starting at 9:30.  Hopefully everyone can make it.  Please let me know if there is a problem.

Hope you are all looking forward to painting with Brenda Stott this month on the 18^th.  She is a great teacher.  Remember that it is a bring your own wood.  I sent the pattern out through the mail for those who signed up.  If you didn’t get the pattern call me.  I will not be at the meeting  because I will be in California painting with Misha.  Lisa has graciously offered to take over for me.   Wood will be available for the April meeting which is a beautiful Rosemaling tree designed by Kristen Birkeland.  So happy to have her teach us.  Luckily we don’t have to worry about the marathon this year.  Our meeting will be on the regular 3 week.

If you are interested in painting with Terzah Probasco in May, please sign up so we can get the wood ordered.  It is a beautiful Rosemaling basket but the design would certainly adapt to other surfaces.

While talking about Rosemaling please consider the seminar that Kristen is sponsoring.  Such a great chance to learn from one of the masters.

I am so excited to have Judy Diephouse as a seminar teacher October 27 and 28.  The pieces have been chosen and we have decided to only charge $50.00 a day for members and $60.00 a day for nonmembers.  It will be a bring your own wood seminar.  Really a deal for taking from a national teacher.  Please put it on your calendar.

Shonnie also has a great retreat planned.  So many fun things coming up.  Thanks for everyone making our chapter great.

February 2017 Newsletter

Please note:  The February meeting on Saturday, Feb. 18, has been cancelled.  Glenna's mother-in-law passed away this week and the funeral is on Saturday.  We will reschedule the apple basket class for another time and Judy will mail out the patterns for next month to those who have signed up.  All of our hears go out to Glenna at this time.  

Hi Ladies,

Even though the weather was terrible in January, a few souls managed to make it to the meeting.  Even our teacher, Sandra Boyer, all the way from Springville.  We did have a great time.  Huge thanks go out to Glenna and hubby for clearing snow for us.  They worked before the meeting and then after as well to help us get home.  So above and beyond what is expected.

This month should be great as well with Lisa doing Michelle Walton’s apple bowl.  I know that I am really looking forward to the class.  Lisa said at Michelle’s seminar it was a Wednesday project and everyone finished that evening.  Lisa had to order the wood so far ahead that there are extra pieces for anyone who was unable to sign-up.  Please contact Lisa or myself if you are interested.  The price is $38.00.  Even if you are not painting the piece please stop by so we can all remain connected.

We did have a vote on the project that Judy Diephouse will be teaching in October.  Check out the list and pictures below for upcoming projects.  The year is really off to a good start.

January 2017 Newsletter

President's Message

Hi Ladies,

Hope you had a great holiday.  I did, but now it is time to be thinking about the New Year.  

I want to thank the past board for making 2016 a great year.  I know how much work goes into managing a group like this and so appreciate all that they did.  The Christmas Luncheon was great as usual and we had fun exchanging gifts.  I am sure glad everyone is a good sport about changing gifts when asked but it always seems like everyone goes home with something wonderful.

I am going to really try and have signups go early so that we can have the wood and patterns available at the meeting the month before the project is taught so it is easier for everyone to get ready for the next month.  Because the luncheon was earlier in the month the January wood was not there.  Surprisingly it actually arrived at my home that afternoon and as such we are still working on getting everyone covered. I do have one extra piece of wood for the January project so call me if you want it.  If you just want the pattern, call me and I will make an extra copy.

The wood for February is already here and will be at the January meeting for those who need it for February.
