President's Message - May 2014

Hi Ladies,
Welcome to another great month of painting! April with Jill Fitzhenry was really a lot of fun and I just love my giraffes. I am going to blow up one of the giraffe heads and flip it and do
A daddy to go with mom and baby. A happy family. I also love my rose. Please don’t forget to send thank you’s to decoart and fm brushes for helping Jill come paint with us. They help save the
Chapter a lot of money and we get a great teacher to come visit us, also.
In May we will be doing UFO painting and I know that not many of us have UFO’s. ha ha.
Betty V. will also be teaching us how to make the beautiful scarves that she makes with Sashay yarn. Bring your own yarn if you want to learn how to do this. If you choose not to paint with us then at least come to sign up for retreat. The toads are not to be missed and the ornaments are great and the nativity is beautiful, etc., etc.. Of course we know that you come to retreat to spend time with all of the great ladies that come to chapter. Retreat is always a fun getaway. We hope you will all plan on spending the weekend with us.
Kay will be doing one of her great Tea Parties for our opening socials so I hope that you will all put
August on your calendar. Don’t forget to get your fascinator hats made, also. We will have some fun
Prizes for the winners of the fascinator contest.
Thank You so much to all of the great ladies who make this chapter function so well. I enjoy spending time with all of you and look forward to chapter meeting every month.
Happy Painting!
Lisa

Jillybean

What fun we had painting with Jillybean. She was just a bundle of joy and she scattered sunshine all through the studio. Thanks to all who participated and those who stopped in to say hello.
Jillybean

A huge thanks to JoLynn who furnished a wonderful lunch on Friday.  I didn't paint on Saturday so I am not sure who furnished lunch, but a huge shout out and thanks to you too.

This was a relaxing day of painting. Jillybean painted at a pace that fit all painting skills.

Looking Forward to May 17

This will be the first UFO we have had in a long time and we are so excited with what we have planned.  First and formost bring one or more UFO's to work on, hopefully to finish up and actually sign and date your work of art.
Betty VanPelt will be teaching us how to make a scarf using nothing more than your fingers to crochet this lovely creation. These make such a wonderful and inexpensive gift and this project is sure to keep your hands busy while watching the news and your favorite late night show.
You will need to bring one skein of yarn.  It will need to be one of the fancy yarns, ie Shasay or Loops.

We look forward to meeting together in a couple of weeks. There is a lot going on.  Be sure to mark your calendar and plan to join us Saturday May 16 at 9:00 am.

Retreat Classes Being Offered

First of all, we will have a perpetual Ornament table set up for those who are not signed up for a class but are itchy to keep your brushes moving.  The ornament, paints and instructions will be at the table all you have to furnish are your brushes and water container - oh yea, your own drink if you are a drinking painter! Please specify which ornament(s) you would like so we can order the correct amount.

Betty VanPelt will be teaching this beautiful watercolor cardinal. Who wouldn't want this in your home during the winter months. He is sure to warm your heart.

Betty Roberts has created this Christmas Memory Box. You will love working in this mixed medium using deco-podge, paint and texture.

Kay Salisbury always delights us with her garden art. This year is no different. This mother and baby toad are sure to bring a smile to your face and motivate you to spend a few more hours outside enjoying the beauties that nature offers.

Hazel has thrown an oil piece into the ring this year. The poinsettia plate is a great beginner piece if you think you want to try oils for the first time or re-introduce your creativity to oils after all these years.

Look at this amazing winter snow globe that Glenna has worked up for us. Your children and grandchildren will be delighted to look at this piece.
Last but not least, if you are a folk art fanatic and you love Maxine Thomas you are going to want/need to sign up for this class being taught by Judy.  You are going to love this trio.

Loretta and Glenna will be sending out the documents needed for registration and the schedule for each class.  Everything will be available at the studio for sign-ups during the May 16 monthly meeting.

Get Your Fascinator On

It is not too early to start designing and assembling your original Fascinator.  We will be having a Fascinator competition as a part of our Opening Social festivities in August.
If you need ideas you can Google 'Fascinator' for some inspiration.  There is nothing that will compliment our tea time more than a beautiful hat.
