October 2019 Newsletter

Dear UGHA Members:

October is here, and as you have all probably noticed, fall has come in with a snap. I am enjoying the fall weather, fall leaves and the colors that come with this cooler weather. It happens to be one of my favorite times of the year.

It's so fun to start painting for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and especially Christmas this year. For some reason, it ended up that we will be painting two Christmas themed projects this fall.

In October, we will be painting a JoSonja Santa plate design taught by Nora Linscott. She has painted the original colors and design, and also another one with a different background—I call that going the extra mile.

And then in November, Lisa Peck will be repainting an original oil design by Margaret Wehking, called Christmas Plate #4, to acrylics so that we can all go back and enjoy a wonderful time in our decorative painting past.

I want to thank both Nora and Lisa for being willing to paint projects, and then teach these designs to us. We are all so lucky to have each other, and to have such fun painting together.

Just a quick reminder that we will be voting on officers for the 2020 year at our October meeting, and that we do need to pay our dues for the next year by the end of December.

See you all October 19th, brush in hand.

September 2019 Newsletter

SEPTEMBER 2019 NEWSLETTER - This is a recap of the newsletter that Glenna sent out last month.  We just wanted to add it here for historical purposes.  Please check out the October newsletter that is also posted on the blog for the most current information!

Hello fellow painters,

I'm sure you have all noticed the change in weather.  I can't believe that summer is almost gone (only 2 more weeks) and it will officially be fall.  I hope you have all enjoyed your summer and the great weather we have had.

Our opening social was fun, and everyone enjoyed painting with Tirzah.  My owls were so fun to paint, and I enjoyed the time spent with everyone else.  I don't know about you, but I can't think of a more delightful way to spend a Saturday than painting with all of you - and sharing our love of decorative painting.

As we move into fall, I am excited about our upcoming seminar with Kristen on September 20 and 21.  Please see the information on the seminar below.  If you haven't received your painting surfaces, please contact Pat McKean.   Prep instructions and patterns were passed out at our August meeting/fall social.  Cake plates will be taught on Friday, and the Box will be taught on Saturday.  Please try to have your background on, pattern on and if you can, the green leaves based in.  Kristen has suggested that if you have a nifty device like a tilted turntable it may help.

See you all in September.

Glenna Nielsen - Chapter President

Chapter Meeting:  September 20-21, 2019 -  Seminar with Kristen Birkeland

Chapter Meeting:  October 19 -   JoSonja Christmas Plate taught by Nora Linscott

Plates have been ordered for those who want them.  Prep instructions, patterns and hopefully the plates will be handed out on Saturday, September 21 at Glenna's Studio.

Chapter Meeting:  November 16- Margaret Wehking

Christmas Plate 4, taught by Lisa Peck

This is a bring-your-own wood project.  The pattern for the class is $10.00.

Don't forget:  We will be voting on a new slate of officers at our October meeting.  National and Chapter due should be paid by December.

August 2019 Newsletter

Hello fellow painters,

I hope you are having a happy summer.  Have you been able to do any painting this summer?

Our opening social is coming up in a couple of weeks on August 17 at 9:00 a.m.  We will be painting the cute owls taught by Tirzah.  Bring your own wood to paint on.  Pat McKean still has some patterns if you need one.

The September Seminar with Kristin Birkelund is coming up on September 20 and 21.  We are hoping to have the wood available at the opening social for pick up.

We have an exciting announcement from Betty Van Pelt, President Elect. Our next year's seminar will be February 28 and 29.  We will have Karen Brower from Australia here.  The seminar will be held directly following Vegas Painting.  Betty will bring some class options to the opening social.

We have so many fun things planned.  I can't wait to see you all at the Opening Social,

                                                   See you soon!

May 2019 Newsletter

Hello Painting Friends,

May's painting class should be a lot of fun.  Thank you Jan for teaching this project.

Our retreat is coming up in June.  There are a lot of great classes planned.  If you haven't done so already, please get signed up as soon as you can because we need to order the painting surfaces and supplies.  Please read the updates below about the retreat classes.

Glenna is in Seria on a dig, so I am filling in for her.

Roberta has not been feeling well and we want to let her know that we are thinking of her and hoping she gets feeling better soon. Roberta, we miss seeing you at painting.

Our service project this year is to the Assistance League.  They especially help babies, children and elderly people.  All workers are volunteers.  They raise a lot of their money through their thrift store.  Please take a look at the information below and bring your gently used items and hygiene kit items to the opening social.  We may also see if people are available when they build clothing kits in Sept - Nov. I will get more information on what is most needed and what volunteering entails and when they need the help when it gets closer.

Thank you all for your continued support. It takes us all to keep this going.

                               Best regards,

Betty Van Pelt, UGHA Vice President
