February Newsletter

President's Message

Hello Painters!
January’s Class was a big success! I would like to thank Gail Jenson for teaching the darling Create Box and for all of her preparation for the kits, stencils, etc.  I think that most of those painting the box had it just about finished at the end of the meeting.   I would like to remind all of us to be more respectful of the teacher and to not talk loudly when she is trying to teach the class.  Thank you for helping with this!  I am looking forward to our February 20th class, Painted Pendants, taught by Jan Christensen. The pendants are gorgeous. You can still order kits from Loretta Tatum or myself. The first kit will cost $10.00 and any extra kits will cost $5.00.  You will need to bring small scissors and a pen to this class. Please join us for a fun day of painting!
Betty Van Pelt is working on a pretty Four Seasons Lamp for March. It will be on display at February’s meeting.  Some of our members are planning to travel to Las Vegas, Nevada for the Creative Painting Convention, from 2/28/16 thru 3/4/16.  Please bring any of the items that you’ve painted to our March meeting.  We still need a painting project for April!  Lisa Peck is working on a project to teach in May.   I hope to see everyone at our meeting!

Minutes for the January Meeting: Submitted by Lisa Peck (Secretary)
Our January meeting was really well attended. The "create box" that Gail taught is beautiful, and we had a lot of fun.
At our board meeting we talked about the class that Jan Christensen is teaching on February 20th and how excited we are. Cost is $10.00 for the kit and $5.00 for each additional kit after that, and Jan had different flavors of necklaces to choose from. Betty Van Pelt is teaching a 4 seasons glass pillar light on March 19th and the cost for that is $18.00. April 30th has yet to be decided. Note that this date is two weeks later because of the marathon and mark your calendars. May 21st is a project from the Decorative painter that is a mixed media project taught by Lisa Peck. If you get the Decorative painter it is in Issue #1 2015. There is a fox on the front. We are painting the partridge tray in that issue and it is a mix of acrylics and colored pencil and we will be doing it on orphan surfaces. Whatever you have at home to put it on. We can blow it up bigger or make it smaller to fit whatever piece you find. The dates for retreat in June have yet to be decided, but the theme is travel, so if any of you have anything you would enjoy teaching, then please let Betty Van Pelt know. The August opening social will be on Thursday the 18th at 6:30 p.m. at Lisa Peck's home. This is a change from the normal, so please mark your calendars to reflect this change.

January Newsletter

Shonnie's First Gig (New Board/Old Board Mtg)

President's Message:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Holiday!
At this time, I would like to thank our 2015 board members for a fantastic year!
I am looking forward to the upcoming year! The Board and I have some exciting classes lined up. On January 16, 2016, we have Gail Jenson teaching a darling painted mixed media “Create” box.  On February 20, 2016, we have Jan Christensen teaching a necklace class done with alcohol paint on special paper. On March 19, 2016, Betty Van Pelt will be teaching a project to be announced. Also, we have a seminar with Karen Hubbard on October 14th & 15th.
My board and I are enthusiastic for a wonderful year.  Please join us on this Adventure!
Also, at this time I would like to express extreme sorrow at the passing of Lynda Van Wagoner, a long time Guild member and Friend.  We’ll Miss you!
Shonnie Whitney
President

In Memory: Lynda Van Wagoner

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Lynda Van Wagoner.  She was a long time member of our Guild, painting buddy and friend.  She loved to go to retreat every June.  At retreat, you could find her sleeping on the couch in the basement at JoLyn Johnson's cabin.  She was always ready for any adventure; be it traveling, painting, card making or any combination of those.  She would always say, "What time will you pick me up?  I'll be ready!"  Lynda was a gorgeous painter and a wonderful friend.  I know that I will miss her terribly.  Her daughter, Suzi Smith, said that she will  hold a celebration of Lynda's life at a later date.  When I have more details, I'll announce it.
Shonnie Whitney

What's Happening:
January 16th:  Gail Jenson will be teaching the "Create" metal box design.  We signed up to paint the piece and patterns were handed out at the Christmas luncheon.  If you have it ready to go before the class starts, you probably will go home with a finished box.  Box and pattern are $31.03.

Well, its a brand New Year, and we should all gear ourselves up for new adventures in painting and creating.  Shonnie has been busy lining up teachers and projects. A quick line up for the remainder of the year (sounds really fun):

February 20: Painted Jewelry by Jan Christensen (kits $5.00 each)
March 19: 4 Seasons Light by Betty Van Pelt
April 23 (note date): (Project to be announced, but it will be great)
May 21:  Lisa Peck (something great I'm sure)
June: RETREAT
July: VACATION TIME (just finish all those projects not completed)
August: Opening Social
September  17:  Fall or Thanksgiving theme by Glenna Nielsen
October 14-15:  Karen Hubbard Seminar
November 19:  Portrait Santa or Joyce Howard Tryptych by Hazel Rimmasch

In Memory of our dear friend Lynda Van Wagoner:

Oct. 6, 1940 ~ Dec. 22,2015
Lynda was born Oct 6, 1940 to Louis and Mamie Latronico in Pueblo, Co. She spent her childhood in Provo, Utah and graduated from BYU with a bachelor's degree in nursing and later from Washington State earning a master's degree. She worked as an RN for many years, then became a medical librarian working at Holy Cross Hospital and then Shriner's Hospital. When she retired she spent her time working on her painting, jewelry making and crafting and traveling all over the world. She will also be missed for her traditional Christmas punch!
Her legacy will live on through her artwork and her great love for her friends and family. We all feel fortunate to have had Lynda and her love and compassion in our lives. Her love was unconditional to those close to her and she held that relationship for her lifetime.
Lynda was most proud of her only child Suzi Smith and her husband Brandon Smith, her grandson Michael Van Wagoner and his wife Emily. She is also survived by her sister Susan Ridley and her husband Jerry, and dearest friend Claudia, and many other loving friends. She was preceded in death by a grandson Ryan, and her parents. Soar over the rainbow, Lynda, til we meet again.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
