December Newsletter

Hi Everyone!
I really missed painting with you this last month and I am really looking forward to the Christmas Party. Don’t forget that the Christmas party is this Saturday at the Lion House. We always have such a great time and laugh a lot. I am looking forward to next year as we have some really great projects coming up. I hope everyone has a great Holiday Season and we will see you in a week.

Our meeting in November was certainly laid back and relaxing, not to mention the fabulous turnout we had. Hopefully everyone has finished their tables and maybe even used them for a side table to stage some of the delicious food you served for Thanksgiving.

Betty Roberts is near the finish line.

Kay adds a bit of whimsy and adds watermelon
seeds and sunflowers

So many painters hard at work.

Remember, it is not to early to sign up for any of the classes being offered during the next few months.

Bill Bayer will teach for a couple of days in February, just prior to Las Vegas. For those of you who missed him this past September you'll have another chance in just a couple of months.

Shara Reiner will be teaching in March. Here is a sampling of what she will be teaching. The sign-up sheet will be available at our annual Christmas luncheon on Saturday, December 6 at the Lion House in Downtown Salt Lake City.

November Newsletter

Hi Ladies and welcome to November.

There are a couple of important date changes that we need to go over first. Our November meeting and the painting of the Shara Reiner table have been moved to a week later than our normal meeting time. The new date for November is the 22nd and we will meet at our normal 9:00 a.m. and then paint the seriously beautiful folk art table.  I would like to encourage everyone to at least stop by, even if you are not painting. We will have our ballots for next year available for you to look at.

Our next date is for our Christmas party and that will be held on December 6, 2014 at noon at the Lion House. You need to come see us on November 22nd so you can sign up and pay for the Christmas party. Everyone must be signed up and paid in full by the 22nd in order to attend the Christmas party. I hope that everyone will make the effort to stop by because our Christmas party is the best!

Another date to put on your calendar is the old board/new board Christmas party which will be held on January 5th. We will give you a time and place later, but you can set aside the date now.

We will be voting on our new board on the 22nd, also. We have a fun, new board this next year and I know how much we love spending time with each other. I have been so blessed to know such wonderful ladies. We have added a couple of new positions to the board as well. We will now have a recipe coordinator to help gather and share all of those wonderful things we eat at each guild meeting. Jan’s two garden fresh salads that we had in October are an example of that. They were so fresh and yummy!

I hope you have all successfully found THE ornament for the Christmas party. I am looking forward to seeing you all again soon, and happy painting.

CHANGE THE DATE!!!!!!!

Please don't forget to change the date for the November meeting. It will be held on Nov. 22nd, same place, same time, 9:00 am, Glenna's Studio.

We will be painting the Shara Reiner table. If you do not want to paint it on the table you can reduce the pattern to fit a lazy susan, or a round box. If you need to purchase the table it can be found at IKEA isle 11 bin 1. The cost is $19.99+tax.

October Newsletter

Hello Everyone!
I am so sorry that I spaced September. It seemed to just fly by. I am now a grandma! I guess that encouraged my mental lapse.
The Bill Bayer Seminar was total fun and we all left with three beautiful oil paintings. He was a great teacher, even for those of us who are not familiar with oil painting. (like me). I will never again be intimidated by the thought of painting a beautiful scenic painting with Bill Bayer again. We had so much fun.
Kay fixed the most wonderful food, as always, and we all left the three days feeling totally spoiled. Thank You so much Kay!
I love getting together with all of you ladies and learning new things and laughing a lot.
It is election time again and if any of you are willing to serve in the guild will you please let me or one of the current board members know. I know that you have a lot of wonderful help, because I could not have done this alone. It is not hard to serve such wonderful ladies in the guild.
Our opening social was really great and we had some fun fascinators that were created and worn to the tea party. We also received some wonderful clothing donations for the Women’s Guild.
Our fall schedule is also going to be a lot of fun, so please pay attention to the upcoming events in this newsletter. Also, I hope everyone is looking diligently or working diligently on your ornaments for the Christmas party. That will be here before you know it.
Our October 18th project is a watercolor that Donna Richards is teaching. The guild is providing all of the paint and paper and there is no cost to this class. We do need a count of who will be attending so we know what supplies to have and who will be there for lunch. Please let me know as soon as possible. This would also be a great class to bring a friend. If you know of anyone who might be considering joining us, this is a great opportunity for them to find out how much fun we are! We welcome all newcomers and this class is the perfect opportunity to check us out.
Our Theme for retreat next year is Bunnies, Spring, Summer. If any of you have any ideas for projects, please let me know. We also have sign-up sheets for all of the upcoming events at the guild meetings, so even if you are not painting, please come by and get signed up for the rest of the year. Especially the Christmas Party.
I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Happy painting!
Lisa

Bill Bayer

Our September meeting was held in conjunction with the Bill Bayer three day seminar. Bill drove from Missouri across the plains, through the amazingly gorgeous state of Wyoming, the gateway to Utah.
Oh my......did I really say that about Wyoming?

Everyone was serious about this project.
It really was a relaxing

For those who missed this seminar you missed an amazing opportunity. Glenna is having him back just prior to Vegas in February. I can't wait to learn more from him. I believe everyone walked away feeling that they got more than their monies worth. I doubt that anyone has much left to do on their canvas' - just get them signed and varnished.
If your schedule didn't allow you to take from Bill this year, be sure to contact Glenna and get signed up for early 2015.
Watch and learn..... that we did!

Bill took time with each student.
No one was denied quality one-on-one time with him

Isn't this fun!

Call to Serve

It's that time of year again when we need members to step to the line and serve on our board. This is the only way we can keep our group of painters alive and well.

If you would like an opportunity to serve with some amazing women, having fun along the way please contact Lisa and let her know what position you are interested in.

Honestly, it is no more than an average of two hours a month commitment. It takes a little bit of effort from everyone to make this work.

Don't delay another day, call now and sign up to serve.

Positions to be filled:
VP/Pres. Elect
Secretary
Historian
Newspaper (blog) editor
Treasurer

Peggy Harris

The same weekend that Bill Bayer was teaching in Salt Lake, Peggy Harris was teaching for the Golden Spike painters in Ogden.
For those who have not had an opportunity to take from her she is just one delightful southern gal.  Peggy often travels with her fury friend Mitzi.
Peggy and Mitzi
What a delightful pair they are

Mitzi was an amazing nude model. Actually, having her there was a great resource in learning how fur on animals grows and what we as artists need to do to create lifelike and believable fur.
We are so lucky to have three painting groups within 40 miles of us in either direction. Each group is always welcoming to visitors. After all, it is sharing that makes us all better?

September Newsletter

Hi everyone! And welcome to the last half of the year.
Our opening social was so much fun and we had some really cool  fascinators. I love hanging out with all of you crafty ladies. Kay did an amazing tea party with lots, did I say LOTS?, of really good food. She will get us the recipes for the yummy food that we had. Those chicken pillows were really yum! We also got a really good selection of dresses and suits to donate to the Women’s Guild. Thank you so much to everyone for your generosity. I will let you know how that turns out.
Our next Guild meeting is on a different weekend than our normal 3rd. We will be meeting onSeptember 25, 26 and 27 for our Bill Bayer Seminar. Thursday and Friday will be one project and the 27th will be one project. These will be oil keepsakes that your family will treasure and one will have a Utah theme to it which will be very unique. Kay has also volunteered to do the food for this and we all know it will be amazing. I also love having these travel artists come and it is always fun to learn something new. Bill Bayer will be bringing everything we need to paint these two paintings. If you do happen to have any oil brushes, you might want to bring them, just in case, but everything else will be provided. Hopefully everyone can come and enjoy learning something new and make keepsakes we can enjoy in our homes.
Our theme for next year’s retreat is Bunnies, Spring and Summer, and I am looking for projects now. If you have any ideas please let me know. Kay is looking at cement bunnies and I am hoping we can get  a jump on sign-up and get some good prep time in. If there is someone we haven’t seen for a while maybe we can give them a shout out and let them know we miss them.
I hope to see everyone again soon and Happy Painting!

High Tea Anyone?

If you missed our annual Opening Social at Kay's home you missed a treat! No kidding - it was a perfect social event. So much time and effort went in to making this an event to remember.
Kay and Pat out did themselves in preparing and displaying the food and tea. It was almost too pretty to eat. It is true, looks aren't everything. Each selection was as delicious as it was pleasing to look at. The real dilemma was..... should I have one more?
Chicken Pillows - must have recipe

Lovely Menu

Beautiful display of food

Perfect Strawberries
Oh, did I mention Fasinators? Talk about escaping reality and living in a Fairy-tale for a few hours, this was so much fun! And the creativity and talent that went in to making the fascinators.  Enjoy these photos.......

August Newsletter

Hi Ladies,
Welcome back to our second half of the painting year. I hope everyone had a great summer. There were a few of us that got together in July at Kay’s home and we made some pretty neat fascinators. I can’t wait for the tea party to see what everyone has done for the fascinator contest. We will also have some fascinators to raffle off during the tea party. I hope everyone can make it for at least some of the time so you can see what fun things we have coming up for the second half of the year. We will have sign-up sheets there and hopefully samples so everyone can have a look-see. We do have some fun stuff coming up for the rest of the year. I hope to see you all there and I hope you have the rest of a great summer.
